Shiny Pokémon cards

The most valuable Shiny card is Charizard-GX SV49 (Hidden Fates Shiny Vault), worth about $707 ungraded. 316 English cards carry this rarity, from Hidden Fates Shiny Vault (2019) to Paldean Fates (2024), across the Sun & Moon, Sword & Shield and Scarlet & Violet eras.

Shiny cards show Pokémon in their alternate shiny colors on a silver, sparkling background. They come from three special sets: the Hidden Fates Shiny Vault in 2019, the Shining Fates Shiny Vault in 2021 and Paldean Fates in 2024. The two Shiny Vaults were subsets with their own numbering, starting with "SV", while Paldean Fates folded shiny cards into the main set.

In Paldean Fates, the rarity symbol tells you what you have: a Shiny Rare shows the outline of one gold star, and a Shiny Ultra Rare shows the outline of two. Vault cards are easy to spot by the "SV" collector number.

These sets were printed in large numbers, so most shiny cards are affordable. The GX, VMAX and ex Pokémon from the vaults are the exceptions. Charizard-GX (Hidden Fates Shiny Vault) from Hidden Fates is the best-known card of the rarity, and Umbreon-GX (Hidden Fates Shiny Vault) shows the lasting demand for Umbreon. From Shining Fates, Charizard VMAX (Shining Fates Shiny Vault) is the top Charizard pull, while in Paldean Fates the simple Pikachu (Paldean Fates) shows how much Pikachu alone can add.

The sparkling silver foil marks easily. Well-centered copies in top grades sell for much more than the ungraded price.
