What a PSA 10 is worth: the grading premium by era, price and grading company
A PSA 10 sold for a median 16 times the ungraded price across 3,516 cards, from about 10× for modern cards to over 300× for Diamond & Pearl and Platinum. A CGC Gem Mint 10 sold for 38% of the same card’s PSA 10.
Published Oct 15, 2026 · 3,516 cards priced on 14 October 2026; graded sales 15 July to 12 October 2026
Key findings
- Across 3,516 English Pokémon cards that sold both ungraded and as a PSA 10, a PSA 10 sold for a median 16.4× the ungraded price (half of cards between 7.4× and 41.2×). The median gap was $195.
- Age drives it. Modern cards carry about 9× to 12×; Wizards of the Coast cards 40.0×; Diamond & Pearl and Platinum over 320×, where few copies survived in gem condition.
- One grade matters most at the top: a PSA 10 sold for a median 4.9× the same card’s PSA 9, while a PSA 9 sold for 4.1× the ungraded price.
- Not every 10 is a PSA 10. Against the same card’s PSA 10, a CGC Gem Mint 10 sold for 38%, a CGC Pristine 10 for 96%, a TAG 10 for 100% and a BGS 9.5 for 51%.
- The cheapest cards carry the biggest multiples among everyday cards: 21.2× for cards under $10 ungraded against 11.2× for $10 to $50. One card in nine (11.2%) has a PSA 10 at 100 times its ungraded price or more.

The older the card, the rarer the 10
The multiple climbs steeply with age. Cards from the current eras (Scarlet & Violet, Sword & Shield, Sun & Moon and Mega Evolution) carry 9× to 12×. Wizards of the Coast cards from 1999 to 2003 carry 40.0×. The highest are the mid-2000s eras: Diamond & Pearl 321× and Platinum 329×. Few copies from those years survive in gem condition, so a PSA 10 is scarce while ungraded copies are not.

Cheap cards, big multiples
By the card’s ungraded price, the multiple is highest at both ends: 21.2× for cards under $10, 11.2× for $10 to $50, then rising again to 31.6× for cards worth $1,000 or more ungraded. A PSA 10 carries a value of its own however cheap the card, so over a few-dollar ungraded copy the multiple is large; at the top end the ungraded price is high, but a gem copy is scarcer still.
| Ungraded price | Cards | Median multiple | Middle half |
|---|---|---|---|
| $1–10 | 1,271 | 21.2× | 12.5× to 37.9× |
| $10–50 | 1,316 | 11.2× | 5.7× to 30.1× |
| $50–250 | 696 | 12.2× | 4.2× to 59.9× |
| $250–1,000 | 193 | 29.3× | 6.3× to 66.3× |
| $1,000+ | 40 | 31.6× | 13.9× to 50.3× |
At the other extreme, 5.6% of cards have a PSA 10 worth less than three times the ungraded copy.
The step from 9 to 10
For the 2,764 cards with both a PSA 9 and a PSA 10 price from sales, the PSA 10 sold for a median 4.9× the PSA 9 (half between 3.1× and 9.5×). The PSA 9 itself sold for 4.1× the ungraded price across 3,898 cards. So most of a top grade’s value sits in the last point. The step is smallest for the newest era (2.6× for Mega Evolution) and largest for older cards (16.6× for Black & White).
| Era | Cards | PSA 10 ÷ PSA 9 | Middle half |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scarlet & Violet | 703 | 4.3× | 3.1× to 6.5× |
| Sword & Shield | 498 | 3.5× | 2.6× to 5.4× |
| Sun & Moon | 425 | 4.6× | 3.1× to 7.0× |
| Wizards of the Coast | 374 | 8.1× | 4.8× to 13.7× |
| EX | 254 | 11.1× | 7.1× to 16.1× |
| Mega Evolution | 216 | 2.6× | 2.2× to 3.2× |
| XY | 179 | 9.6× | 5.9× to 15.9× |
| Black & White | 41 | 16.6× | 12.7× to 27.3× |
| HeartGold & SoulSilver | 28 | 12.3× | 9.4× to 17.6× |
Not every 10 is a PSA 10
Each grading company’s top grade sells at its own price. Pairing the same card’s sales in each grade with its PSA 10 sales from Jul 15, 2026 to Oct 12, 2026 (at least three sales of each, 3,246 pairings in all), a CGC Gem Mint 10 sold for a median 38% of the PSA 10, closer to a PSA 9 (22% of a PSA 10) than to a PSA 10. CGC’s higher Pristine 10 sold for 96% of a PSA 10, and a TAG 10 for 100%: level with PSA. A BGS 9.5 sold for 51% and an ACE 10 for 58%.

The CGC split matters. CGC’s 10 comes in two labels, Gem Mint and Pristine, and the sale records hold both under the same grade; this report separates them by whether the listing title names Pristine. Pooled together they would read as a single figure that describes neither.
Where the premium is largest
The cards whose PSA 10 sells for the largest multiple of an ungraded copy worth $10 or more, and those with the largest dollar gap. A card is listed only with at least 5 PSA 10 sales in 90 days and a PSA 10 price within twice its own 90-day sales median, so no single outsized sale puts a card here.

How this was worked out, and its limits
Multiples. UltraBall’s prices for each English card on Oct 14, 2026, rebuilt nightly from verified sales: the PSA 10 (or PSA 9) price divided by the ungraded Near Mint price, for the cards that meet the rule above. Medians and quartiles are across cards, so each card counts once. This is the same rule as the live PSA 10 Grading Premium Index (version ub-premium-2), read on one day.
Other graders. From UltraBall’s sold ledger of verified eBay US sales, Jul 15, 2026 to Oct 12, 2026, Buy It Now listings that took an offer left out because they show the asking price. For each card and printing, the median sale in a grade is divided by the median PSA 10 sale where both have at least three sales; the figure is the median across cards. A grade is shown with at least 50 cards.
Limits. Only cards that were graded and sold are in the figures, so the premium describes cards people chose to grade. The ledger was not collecting from 19 to 31 August 2026 and on a few July days; the comparisons are within the same window and are unaffected. The report makes no claim about how the premium has changed over time. Every term is defined on the methodology page.
